I thought I only had 3 must see foreign films for 2010 but I was wrong.  DEAD WRONG.  I can't say "I forgot about" The Complete Metropolis coming out...I've been looking forward to this since they announced the finding of the entire lost film last summer...but I'm REALLY looking forward to the theatrical and Blu-Ray release.  Then I thought about it and was like, "Dude!  It's a foreign film!"

Of course the film is a silent film and the title cards found within are all in English.  So maybe I don't think of it as a foreign film because of that.  But it is...it is also Fritz Lang's sci-fi masterpiece.  The original film was only shown once at its premiere and was cut up...never shown again.  The footage cut out was considered lost for the past eight decades until it was found last summer.  Now the footage has been restored and added back into the film. 

Most cut footage from the early days of cinema were thrown away.  There was no reason to keep it around - there was no way to present it to the audience.  There was no DVD extras and all unused footage did was take up space.  It's a big shame as heavy censorship always showed up in those early days.  Another favorite of mine, The Marx Brothers A Night At The Opera, was heavily cut to remove all mentions of Italy where the film starts out at.  Why?  Because we were into World War II then.  Now that cut footage is lost forever...not that it make ANATO a bad film...but just not complete.

So to have a masterpiece like Metropolis now fully restored is a huge monster deal and the fact that by the end of the year you can check it out IN THEATERS and then own it on Blu-Ray is just...PHENOM.  It's a huge treat to both classic film era fans and fans of sci-fi.  Metropolis was really the first fully realized science fiction film paving the way to everything sci-fi fans hold dear to today like Star Wars and Star Trek.  Star Wars really owes alot to Metropolis especially with the robot build in the film and how that looks inspired C-3PO.

So I'll have to wait a few more months but hopefully The Complete Metropolis will be in a theater soon in Philly or NYC.  Until then...enjoy the trailer!

Before Voltron, Robotech, GI Joe, and Transformers there was...Star Blazers.  It was my first glimpse at not only manga but a ongoing series that seemed to be alot more indepth then most episodes of Grape Ape.  Now Space Battleship Yamato (as it's called in Japan) is finally getting a live-action movie.  It will be released in December 2010 in Japan...hopefully we won't have to wait long for at least a DVD to be released here.  Even this teaser trailer is WAY too short.

The next must-see film is already out in France and hopefully, with Luc Besson writing and directing this flick, it will make it here to the states!  Plus it is a comic book film!  Sure it's a French comic...but it is a comic book film nonetheless.  The trailer looks amazing and Les aventures extraordinaires d'Adèle Blanc-Sec (The Extraordinary Adventures of Adèle Blanc-Sec) looks like it could be a franchise for Besson.  Did I mention how fucking pretty this movie looks?!?!?!?!  CAN'T WAIT!!!

I really can't wait to see Jean-Pierre Jeunet's new comedy - glad to see they made an English trailer for it finally. It came out already in England (as well as the rest of the world) so here's hoping we get it in theaters this summer!

Disney is really doing a great job with this ad campaign for Tron Legacy.  It's only March and I'm already foaming at the mouth.  Luckily...I got my Flynn Lives t-shirt.

Can't believe they are making this film!  It comes out December 2010 in Japan...who knows when we'll get it over here.  Best bet is a bootleg DVD!!!

With the bad Cop Out theatrical trailer now a distant memory (hopefully), Warner Bros. has shared the new Cop Out one sheet.

Feels good to see Bruce Willis in John McClaine form and the great tagline 'Rock Out With Your Glock Out.' Once again I can't help feel that Warner Bros. still missed the mark on this. Thoughts?

Another month...another light-cycle.  I believe these will continue to pop up about once a month until Tron Legacy hits in December.
